Who supplies power in Brevard
Brevard is generally served by Duke Energy Carolinas. Haywood EMC, a member owned cooperative, serves much of the western county, including the Rosman area. Some homes just outside Brevard may be on either one, so check your bill.
Duke customers follow Duke's North Carolina rules for solar and net metering and can ask whether PowerPair still has capacity. Haywood EMC members follow the co-op's own rules. A contractor should confirm the current interconnection terms with your utility before quoting.
Your installer files the interconnection application with the utility as part of the job.
Rain, forest and outages
Heavy rain and tall forests make fallen trees the most common outage cause around Brevard. Hurricane Helene in late September 2024 brought flooding along the French Broad and Davidson rivers and long outages to the area.
In town, backup usually covers the refrigerator, lights, internet and heat. Outside town, wells are common and the pump goes first. Propane is widely used, so a battery for short outages and a propane generator for long ones is a common pairing.
Homes near the rivers may also want critical equipment and batteries mounted above flood level.
A $349 home energy evaluation in Brevard
Solar contractors serving Brevard often come from Asheville or Hendersonville, and getting on their schedule can take time. On HomeBackupPros you can book a paid home energy evaluation for $349. You get an electric audit, an energy use review and a written system quote.
Buy the system from that contractor and the $349 is credited toward the price. Contractors may offer a free site visit or an estimate instead, and you choose. Every contractor is approved by our team after a check of their NC electrical contractor license.
Bring a year of bills so the visit can focus on your roof and backup needs.
Honest numbers for a cloudy climate
Brevard gets more cloudy days than the Piedmont, so production estimates should reflect real local weather. Ask for a month by month estimate and a shade report. Open lots in the French Broad valley do better than shaded hillside homes.
A battery can make sense even where solar production is modest, since outages here are common. Your installer handles the electrical permit and the utility paperwork.
Ask for winter numbers, since low sun and short days cut output most in December and January. Older homes may need a main panel upgrade before a battery is added, so ask the contractor to check it during the visit.

Brevard questions
Who provides electricity in Brevard?
Brevard is generally served by Duke Energy Carolinas. Haywood EMC serves much of the western part of Transylvania County. Your bill shows which one you have. Each has its own solar and buyback rules, so confirm before you request quotes.
Is solar worth it in Brevard with all the rain?
It can be on a site with open southern sky. Output is lower on cloudy days and under trees. A month by month estimate based on your site will show the real numbers.
Can I get a battery just for outages?
Yes. A standalone battery charges from the grid and runs essentials during an outage. Adding solar lets it recharge during long outages. A contractor can compare both. A contractor can price both during an evaluation.
How do I get a solar quote in Brevard?
Share your monthly kWh usage and goal on HomeBackupPros. Approved contractors who serve Brevard respond with a free visit, an estimate or a paid $349 evaluation that is credited if you buy from them.
